    题名: Genome-wide association study of treatment emergent suicidal ideation with antidepressant use

    摘要: Background and Aims: Stigma is one of the main barriers when addressing the need for access to accurate diagnosis and treatment for patients with mental disorders. The objective of this study was to evaluate the social distance towards bipolar disorder in different situations, within a sample of non- psychiatric Chilean doctors. Methods: A survey was conducted, where 105 non- psychiatric doctors were asked their gender, age, medical specialty, and any history of treatment of mental health issues of their own, or of a direct family member. The respondents completed a questionnaire based on Link’s Social Distance scale (SD), utilizing the vignette of a patient with bipolar disorder. Results: The results obtained from the sample (58.1% male, 41.9% female; 83% under the age of 40), highlighted that 72% of respondents had a history of previous treatment either for themselves, or for a direct family member. Questions about the SD scale were arranged into two groups: “Closeness and Social interaction” and “Intimacy and Trust”. A clear difference was observed between the two groups of questions, where social acceptance in the first group was high at 76.4%, with a 9.2% rejection, while in the second group rejection was high at 45.2%, with acceptance at 26.1%. Conclusions: It was observed that the main stigma of non- psychiatric doctors towards bipolar patients was in the context of “Intimacy and Trust”, whereas a high level of acceptance was seen in instances of “Social Interaction”. Results may be influenced by the age of the sample and their familiarity with mental disorders.
