    題名: The relationships between cardiovascular risk factors and mortality of a group free-living elderly in Southern Taiwan

    摘要: This study utilized data from annual health check-ups of the elderly in a city of southern Taiwan to examine the relationships between cardiovascular risk factors and mortality. There were 17,019 males and 91,89 females participated in 1995, and 15,509 males and 7,934 females participated in 1996. 14,007 of them participated in both years. The average age for males and females were 71.1!O4.6and 71.2!O4.8 respectively. Measurements such as height without shoes, weight with light clothes, and blood pressures were taken at the hospitals. Fasting blood samples were drawn for laboratory analysis. Death records including dates and causes of deaths were obtained from Department of Health of Taiwan. By the end of year 2002, 6,116 males and2,774 females died. Cox proportional hazard model was used to estimate the relative risk (RR) increment of each cardiovascular risk factor. Results showed (1) for every10mmHg increment of SBP from 80 mmHg, the RR increased, SBP lower than 65mmHg also had higher probability of death; (2) the U shape of RR was observed in SBP too, with SBP in 100~140 mmHg being the nadir; (3)increasing BMI showed protecting effect, 24~27 kg/m2 was with the lowest risk, it increased slowly as BMI reaching 30;(4) the RR increased sharply when it reached 120 mg/dL; and(5) the RR of uric acid presenting a linear when it was higher than 5.5 mg/dL. These results not only confirmed the cut-off points for each cardiovascular risk factor, but also provided evidence for suggesting ideal range.
