    题名: Changes of interleukin 6 and N-3 polyunsaturates and kidney function decline in type 2 diabetes

    摘要: Background and aims: Potential modifiable dietary or inflammatory biomarkers may impact the decline estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), but very few has been examined in type 2 diabetes. Methods: Eighty-eight type 2 diabetic adults free of kidney disease who have participated in the Diabetes Management through Integrated Delivery System (DMIDS) cohort were recruited from primary clinics in southern Taiwan and followed for 3 years. An eGFR decline of > 33% was the outcome and interleukin 6 and erythrocyte fatty acids were the modifiable biomarkers examined. Results: Significant (p< 0.05) higher rate of increases in fasting plasma glucose (19% vs. –0.4%), triglycerides (30% vs 3%) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) (126% vs. 106%) were found between subjects with eGFR decline of > 33% than < 33%. Rate of increases in total erythrocyte n-3 polyunsaturates were also marginally different (p=0.05) between the two groups (51.3% vs 81%). In conclusion, rate of elevation of interleukin 6 appears to associate with greater kidney function decline in type 2 diabetes. Identification of dietary strategy to modify IL-6 concentrations may be worth for future investigation.
