摘要: Purpose : The population of soft contact lens wearers is increasing, thus the issues of feeling comfortable and contact lens-induced clinical symptoms are concerned. After wearing a long period of time, adsorbed proteins may result in immune reactions if wearers do not clean the accumulated proteins thoroughly. We then investigated a multi-functional contact lens care solution we developed for the cleansing ability to remove lysozyme and for lubricating property. Methods : Two ionic contact lenses (Etafilcon-A and Ocufilcon-D) and two nonionic lenses (Polymacon, and Nelfilcon-A) were incubated in 1.9 mg/ml lysozyme solution for 24 hours, and lenses were cleaned with multi-functional contact lens care solution for 30 minute. Lysozyme deposited on the lens was extracted by sodium dodecyl sulfate, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was conducted for measuring the amount of adsorbed lysozyme. For analyzing lubricating property of the care solution, contact lenses were sliding against a glass in saline, 1.9 mg/ml of lysozyme solution, or care solution containing 1.9 mg/ml lysozyme to analyze coefficient of friction (COF). All conditions were repeated 5 times for lysozyme deposition, and 4 times for friction testing. Results : When contact lenses were adsorbed in lysozyme and cleaned by the care solution, a significant amount of adsorbed lysozyme was removed from the lens despite of the materials of lenses (p<0.01). Lysozyme would increase COF of Polymacon (from 0.003 in PBS to 0.007 in lysozyme, p<0.05), but would not affect COF of Etalfilcon-A, Ocufilcon-D, and Nelfilcon-A lenses. When Polymacon lenses was sliding in both lysozyme and care solution, COF was decreased compared with it in lysozyme solution only (from 0.007 to 0.005). However,COF was not affected when Etafilcon-A, Ocufilcon-D, and Nelfilcon-A lenses were in lysozyme and care solution. Conclusions : Multi-functional contact lens care solution could effectively remove adsorbed lysozyme, suggesting good cleansing ability of the care solution. For lubricating property analysis, the result suggested that the care solution could reduce the high COF caused by lysozyme for Polymacon lenses. However, the care solution would not provide additional lubrication if COF was not affected by lysozyme.
